  19. Hello and welcome one and all to the section known by many names.  To me, it 
  20. is known as CHIT CHAT.   To decent coders it is known as CRAP-TALK.  To Tom, 
  21. Dick and Harry it's known as GENERAL BURBLE and to John Major it's known  as 
  22. WHY ISN'T IT TAXED? but  whatever you like to call  it, it's here once again 
  23. so sit back with a nice cuppa and enjoy.

  25. Well, this month certainly has seen some problems.  For a start, my computer 
  26. is acting unlike a computer should do.   A computer should do what you  tell 
  27. it  to but not my humble STE.   The keyboard is acting in a  stupid  manner, 
  28. mainly  when  it comes to the spacebar.   You see,  although  it  is  acting 
  29. slightly  better at the moment,  usually, the spacebar either doesn't make a 
  30. space or it makes two which makes the typing of articles and letters a  very 
  31. slow,  tedious  and  frustrating task.   My brilliant  sound-quality  Yamaha  
  32. sound-chip  is also playing up by not always working - Sometimes I can  turn  
  33. on the computer with a demo  or something loading only to be shocked by  not 
  34. being greeted by one of those lovely chip-tunes.   My internal disk drive is 
  35. also  playing up in quite an interesting way.   Not always reading the  full 
  36. directory, telling me there isn't a disk in  the drive when there is...These  
  37. are just a couple of the problems that my drive has been giving  me.   There 
  38. is  also a problem with the mouse-port...Could it be to do with the  strange 
  39. positioning of the bloody things?   No,  of course not!   My mouse movements 
  40. are  no longer being read at all and occasionally the mouse  pointer  starts 
  41. going  mental and  going all over the place  on its own (and no it's  NOT  a 
  42. virus).  Sigh.  Well, at the time of writing, my computer has been like this 
  43. for 3 weeks.   My STE is still on guarantee so leaping with joy I phoned  up 
  44. the  number that was supposed to get me free home service within four  days.  
  45. Well, I'm still  waiting because apparently they are waiting  for some parts 
  46. to  come through from Commodore (!) although personally  I  think that  they 
  47. are  just  mucking me  about until my guarantee runs out  as it  is  only  a 
  48. matter of days.  So, is this all down to me mistreating my STE?  No!   Since 
  49. I got hold of the new STE I have had nothing but problems.   Oh well, I just 
  50. hope I can get it sorted out soon.

  52. Let's  change  the subject but let's stay on grim subjects as   I'm  feeling 
  53. quite cynical at the moment...

  55. You may have heard on this news recently about a SALLY  ferry on its way  to 
  56. France  being  stranded after its  engine caught fire and the whole  of  the 
  57. crew and passengers were put at risk.   Well, I travelled on that exact same 
  58. ferry  (the SALLY  STAR) on  the  exact same time-table to and from  exactly 
  59. the   same  destinations just two days before the event   happened  and  the 
  60. thing   is  that we very nearly cancelled the short day-trip  until  2  days 
  61. later  which  would have meant that I too would have been  involved  in  the 
  62. incident.   Well at first I thanked my lucky stars but then I realised  that  
  63. talking to stars was some kind of sign of madness.

  65. On a more computer-related topic,  you may be happy to hear that the  P.D.L. 
  66. run  by myself,  James,  is going commercial.   The  P.D.L. at present  is a 
  67. swapping service but  there has been so much  interest and support with  the 
  68. project  that it has blown right out of scale and is taking  up too much  of 
  69. my time so I have decided to go into  business  with the P.D.L.  I am almost 
  70. 100% sure that it  will all go ahead.    I'm going to get  a  few  100  more 
  71. disks  of P.D. first, sort out my catalogue and then get advertising  in the 
  72. glossies   and  so on.   I'm not  sure  about pricing  or anything  yet  but 
  73. I'll probably have a special offer for the first month or so.   One thing  I 
  74. do know though is that I can  offer an  excellent service with full  back-up 
  75. help with ALL customers.   No stupid pre-recorded help lines,  no  half-wits 
  76. on  the phones,  I'll be  there taking  calls and sharing  all my  knowledge 
  77. with anyone  that needs it.  Although I will  be charging for disks I intend  
  78. to keep the library as a SERVICE and not  as a business that puts the  bread 
  79. on  the  table.   Providing  I at least cover costs of  advertising  I  will 
  80. continue to run.   There will be full one-to-one customer care and  everyone 
  81. who  orders from me will be treated like a friend.   Anyone that gets  POWER 
  82. directly from me knows that I fully interact and don't just chuck a disk  in 
  83. an  envelope...That's how POWER P.D.  is now and that's how POWER  P.D.   is 
  84. going  to  be.   We  will more than likely  be  stocking  I.D.S.  commercial  
  85. software,  we  may be having our own commercial software label with  already 
  86. one title in production (if  you're interested,  get in  touch with examples 
  87. of  your work and info about what you would like to  produce)  and  we  will  
  88. be stocking the ST HANDBOOK,  blank disks and hopefully lots of other  stuff  
  89. so   that  we can  offer you full choice in top-quality goods.    I do  hope 
  90. that you will check us out when we're up and running commercially and please 
  91. remember to spread the word.   If I  can get  this P.D.L.  to work out  well 
  92. you  will  see me making sure that a lot more life is brought  into  the  ST 
  93. scene  -  More shows,  production of software and so on.   I can make  it  a 
  94. reality providing you all support me.   I would appreciate  comments,  ideas 
  95. and suggestions on this.
